How to have healthy eyelashes
You’ve heard the saying that your eyes are the window to your soul! If this is true, then it is super important to take care of the curtains, aka our eyelashes. Eyelashes are made up of 97% keratin and the average eyelash length is approximately 10mm in length. The upper eyelid has more eyelashes than the bottom, around 200 to 300, while the bottom has about 100. Each day a few eyelashes fall out, and their full growth cycle is about three months, shorter than that for hair on the head—one of the reasons eyelashes are shorter in length. We spend hours pampering our hair and skin but do you ever consider how to look after your lashes? It really does make a difference, the better you look after them the more luscious they will look!
Always remove your mascara
This is a no-brainer! Use a fabric reusable pad rather than a cotton wool pad, which is kinder to the environment and the fibres from the cotton wool won’t irritate your eyes. Soak the pad with your eye makeup remover and then hold it on your eye, don’t rub, wait for the product to do its job and start breaking up the mascara, then gently wipe away. Repeat until all the mascara is off.
Use an eyelash comb
Do you comb your lashes? Using an eyelash comb daily helps to remove dirt and debris from the lashes and prevents the follicles from getting clogged. Moisturise your lashes, we like using a little coconut oil. Using a serum regularly helps to nourish and strengthen your eyelashes. Luna Nectar’s Moon Boost Lash Serum is a silky elixir that achieves greater length, thickness and longevity of your lashes. It is 100% natural, vegan, organic and cruelty-free and delivers amazing results – naturally!
Chose your eye products carefully
Look at the ingredients in your mascara. Avoid products that contain ethel alcohol because it’s very drying, causing the lashes to be brittle and resulting in breakage. Look for mascaras that are also free of parabens and phthalates. You should want to keep any eye creams, serums or products as organic and natural as possible. This is why we recommend products like coconut oil. Products that are packed with chemicals can cause a reaction, irritate your eyes or damage your eyelashes.
Never, ever share your eye products with anyone else
This is the cardinal rule! We know it can be tempting to share products but DON’T! Eye infections are notoriously contagious and can be easily spread. It is also extremely unhygienic and is just going to pass on the bacteria to your eyes. It is also important that if you are getting your makeup done by a makeup artist or trying products in a shop that you use a disposable mascara wand with their mascara. Many MUAs may be tempted to not bother with this but you could really regret it the next day. Eye makeup brushes should also be cleaned along with any eyeshadow used.
